THE TOUR is done and dusted! What a wonderful day we had on Saturday in Acton, not to mention a wonderful month across all three of our centres. You all made the comp atmosphere somehow both relaxed and electric at the same time!

Thursday leading up to the comp was a big night for us! The setters made the last tweaks to the designs of the finals blocs, and several Arch crew members spent the night stripping every single hold from the walls in Acton. Friday morning rolled around and the setters leapt into action again, designing and testing 30 blocs. We were ready…

9am on Saturday saw things kick off with each semi-finalist receiving a t-shirt, wristband, scorecard, liquid chalk, and a cliff bar. Climbers were in for a grueling day; 30 blocs to tackle in 6 hours! Up to 10 points are available on each problem, fewer attempts equal bigger scores.

As 3pm came, pizza was on offer to the weary competitors as The Arch staff members quickly tallied the results of the semi finals, seen below:

We announced the Men’s finalists: Aidan Roberts, Alex Prescott, Cheehan Weereratne, Raul Navarro, Tom Gibson, and Kristian Birchall.

Next the Women’s: Frances Bensley, Diana Nowacka, Clem Gourtay, Cassy Holland, Louise Bernard, and Rebecca Rose.

The final 12 were given a short break and were then sent into isolation before the routesetters went to work on the Stage Wall, setting the first round of final blocs!

With the blocs in place, our competitors were introduced one-by-one to a very energetic crowd. The clock started and the climbers had 2 minutes to observe each of the 3 blocs they would be attempting in the first round.

Everyone is sent back to isolation and the climbing begins! With only 4 minutes per bloc, the climbers must be judicious in their attempts. Every bit of energy and strength left in their bodies will be needed to make it to the SuperFinal. Meet the competitors:

After 3 blocs apiece, the final 4 have emerged and move on to the last head to head climb. Once again the climbers are sent to isolation as the setting team strip a few blocs to make space to set two final problems. Our pair of MCs serenade the audience with renditions of classic 80’s hit songs.

For the Men’s final head to head, Alex and Aidan are ready to battle it out! In the Women’s, Clem and Frances will contest for the win.

After an absolutely intense 8 minutes, our two winners are crowned: Aidan and Frances!! Alex and Clem come in 2nd, Cheehan and Cassy round off the podium in 3rd!

4th - Diana and Tom. 5th - Louise and Raul. 6th - Rebecca and Kristian.

We can’t thank you all enough! Your excitement and enthusiasm made for a total blast! We used a potato to livestream the comp if you couldn’t make it out on the night.

If you like what you see here, our next event will be TAMRU, our charity climb, on August 30th.

If THE TOUR was your first time at our new Acton centre, could you help us by leaving a review on Google?

Big thanks to Claudiu and Susie for taking so many beautiful photos during the event and sharing them with us! Also thanks to Blocz and Unit for sending us some killer volumes and holds.
